Cooking in the Community

I pride myself in providing 'hands-on', warm, friendly and professional cookery sessions across the Isle of Wight, working with groups and people from all walks of life.

To date, cookery sessions have been provided at :

  • Cowes Children's Centre - Moms and Dads with young children
  • GFS Platform, Shanklin - young Moms
  • Parklands, Cowes
  • Age Concern for their Celebration of Age
  • West Newport Children's Centre - Moms and Dads with young children
  • Northwood Primary School through Cowes Extended Schools' Service - family cooking with parents and their children
  • The Pavilion, East Cowes - youngsters between the ages of 8 and 18

I write each and every recipe for these sessions which is relevant to each and every group. The recipes are based on healthy eating, as well as cooking on a budget. Incorporated in these sessions is good food hygiene practice along with general discussion centred around challenges faced - i.e. living in a bedsit with a young baby; coping with 'picky eaters'; special dietary requirements, etc. New from November 2009 are our Weaning Cookery Classes - a pilot being held at West Newport Children's Centre in Carisbrooke. These are proving very popular. Advice and guidance on weaning is offered; recipes written for this particular cohort as well as the group actually cooking dishes suitable for babies over the age of 6 months. You are assured of a warm welcome - I love working with people from all walks of life, with different cookery skills - some people have a fairly good knowledge of cookery and some have never made a dish. New friendships are made, and a support network established.

I am a member of The Institute for Learning and hold a current CRB check along with an up to date Child Protection Certificate.
